Credit Cards - The Ugly Truth
Credit card debt is an ever growing, increasing problem in our society today. Every day we hear about credit card debt on television and radios, we read about it on the internet and the media and we have email inboxes that are flooded with credit card offers and incentives. Some of these offers can be very enticing and seem like they are a great deal. They offer incentives, rewards, and bonuses that seem like wonderful deals. They make it look like there are many benefits to owning and using credit cards.
There is one thing that every single credit card has in common. There are no positives to having them. People that use credit cards will, without a doubt, spend more money. They will find themselves farther in debt and in a situation that they cannot get out of. The benefits and incentives that they offer are not worth the amount of debt and financial difficulty that you will incur in trying to obtain these rewards and benefits. This is due to the fact that the percentage rates of these benefits are so low. You have to spend ridiculously large amounts of money to see any returns. By the time you see returns, your credit card debt is so high that the returns are reinvested back into the credit card. This creates a continuous, vicious cycle that is sometimes impossible to get out of.
For many people credit cards have become a way of life. They rely on them more and more every day. People are using their credit cards for more of their purchases than ever before. They are not thinking twice about plopping their card down on the counter to cover a purchase. In our society, it is becoming normal to see something you want and to just put it on your card in order to get it. The biggest problem with doing this is that many people do not pay their credit card bills on time. So, they end up with late fees and other charges that they have to pay for in the end. Many people also pay just the minimum amount on their cards every month. By doing this, they are letting the interest charges continue to build every month.
The easy solution to getting out of credit card debt is to stop using your cards. Pay for everything with cash. This way, if you don't have the money, you are not able to purchase the item. This will keep you from going into debt. If you like the convenience of the card or for traveling or online purchases, consider getting a debit card. It can be used just like a credit card. However, there are no interest rates and no hidden fees associated with a debit card. Plus, if you do not have the money to cover a purchase, you cannot make that purchase.
